Activity of the laboratory of oral history in the context of the national-patriotic education of student youth (from the experience of Izmail State University of Humanities)

Abstract

The main dominant of the national-patriotic education of students studying at universities of humanities is the reinforcement of a person’s values-based attitude to the history of their own people and the Ukrainian state, which is a consolidating factor in the development of the society and the nation as a whole. In the context of considering the main priorities of the national-patriotic education of students of  universities of humanities, the importance and role of the oral history laboratory, which is aimed at finding, collecting and storing information (memories, questionnaires, movies and photos), is revealed. The experience and prospects of the Department of History and Methods of Teaching of Izmail State University of Humanities in this process are summed up. The possibilities of improving sustainable forms of the national- patriotic education of students are considered. Joint research within the laboratory has allowed to collect and publish on the Internet the materials for research projects «World War II Through the Eyes of Bessarabian Children» and «The Famine of 1946-1947 in Southern Bessarabia: Memories and History». As part of the laboratory, a workshop was held for school teachers of the town and district on the topic: «Oral history as a Trend Intrigue of Modern Science», during which teachers received practical advice on the organization of exploratory oral research. The activity of the Center (Laboratory) of Oral History of ISUH covers a number of topical issues related to various aspects of the history of the region, the study of which will contribute to the formation of a holistic perception of the region as an integral part of the Ukrainian state, will get acquainted with the best traditions of the peoples living on the Danube coast, will help raise the national consciousness level of  students studying humanities and will be an effective factor in the self-identification of the nation. This is one of the main tasks of education for peace and the formation of civil society.
