The Economic Development of Cah City Cross in the Interbelic Period (1918-1940)

Abstract

This article aims to improve historiographical the economic development of the city of
Cahul between 1918 and 1940. The author uses various documentary and historiographical
sources of the mentioned problem. The author treats in the article only the economic domains:
agriculture, industry, commerce, fairs, trade unions. Between 1918-1940 as well as all the cities
of Bessarabia, takes place the introduction into the sphere of the Romanian commercial life of
the city of Cahul. It takes place the improvement of the trade industry also the development of
communication routes, increases the revenues in the city budget in order to ensure the wellbeing
of the inhabitants of Cahul.
In the period 1936-1940, at the animal fair in Târgu Mureş. 47,488 animals were
marketed in Cahul. Most in 1936, when 13,460 heads were sold, the fewest – in the following
year: only 3,567.
Incorporated in the sphere of Romanian commercial life, Cahul trade has made clear
progress, enjoying the status of county residence. The commercial activity increased the
revenues in the county budget, ensuring the welfare of its inhabitants.

sources of the aforementioned problem. However, due to the lack of space, we will only refer to
the main areas of Cahul's economy: agriculture, industry, commerce, trade fairs, trade fairs and
just tangentially we will refer to the development of communications, infrastructure, finance and
other economic issues.
